Keeping Our Seniors Warm Campaign

Ntbf is presently working closely with the Delaware County Office of
Services for the Aging (COSA) in our 2008 Keeping Our Seniors Warm
Campaign.  This program subsidizes the cost of fuel oil to elderly
Delaware County citizens who are unable to meet the rising costs of
heating their homes.  Last year, COSA was able to assist 59 seniors
each with $300 towards home fuel oil costs.  Our goal this year is to
provide 100 needy seniors with 100 gallons of fuel oil each.   The
Keeping Our Seniors Warm Campaign will be an annual drive for
Delaware County seniors.

Elder Exploitation  Education Campaign

Ntbf will seek to educate the public on two critical matters affecting
the senior population: exploitation issues including elder abuse and
elder fraud and medication use in the elderly.  For a variety of
reasons, the senior population is a targeted age group for fraud and
abuse.  Not-To-Be Forgotten Foundation’s goal is to educate not only
the seniors themselves on signs of fraud and abuse but to enlighten
the community on what to look for and to encourage the community at
large to watch over our older adult population.

Medication and the Elderly

Ntbf’s education awareness program will center on the effects and
commonplace occurrence of overmedication of seniors and/or adverse
reactions of medications consumed.  These are common problems
among the elderly population.  Many drugs can be absorbed by the
body differently in seniors than in younger individuals causing
reactions not intended or acknowledged.  Often family members
believe that a senior may be developing dementia when, in fact, the
symptoms exhibited are as a result of delirium from drug interaction
or overmedication.  It will be ntbf’s goal to bring these issues to the
attention of family and the medical community.

Conscientious Acts of Kindness Campaign

This initiative will kick off with a Tea Party Saturday, October 24,
2009.  G
uests will be members of the senior population in Delaware
County who are invited to bring family members and friends.  All
groups in attendance must have a senior citizen as a member of their
party.  The Tea Party will act as an outreach program focused on
connecting the generations, bringing awareness to senior issues and
challenging the younger generations and the community at large to
take a daily interest in those seniors whose lives cross paths with their
own by making conscientious choices to assist seniors in their
neighborhoods, in their communities and in their families with
purposeful acts of kindness.  For instance, bringing trash cans up
from the curb on trash day, assisting in unloading a grocery cart at the
grocery store, making sure their walkways are safe by shoveling their
snow and/or raking their leaves.
In addition to the Tea Party, ntbf will be establishing a blog on its
website for individuals to post their acts of kindness.  It is our
expectation that the blog will generate further acts of kindness
throughout the community.  While tea parties in 2009 and 2010 are
expected to remain within Delaware County, ntbf’s goal is to expand
the tea party concept outside of the County.  Creating an
ntbf Face
Book Page which allows teenagers and other individuals to list the
nonprofits they support is an additional avenue which will bring our
purpose to the attention of teenagers and young people.

Wishes for Seniors:

Wishes for seniors will be a driving force for ntbf’s growth and
development.  Originally conceptualized upon the idea of granting
wishes to seniors who are unable to fulfill a hope, need or dream, ntbf
will be utilizing funds raised from its primary fundraising activity
each year – the Duck Derby – to meet the wish requests of seniors
throughout Delaware County.  It is our intention to be able to meet our
first wish request in early summer following the Duck Derby.
